This video is of Natural Horsemanship ground work. This covers the basic movements of the horse, forwards, backwards, lateral, crossing over in the front and in the back.  All of these movements are essential to gaining control over the 4 corners of your horse under saddle.  All of the these exercise are the foundation building blocks for your haunch turns, your forehand turns, your side passes, collection, backing up and moving forward under saddle.   The reasoning behind teaching your horse all of these exercises is so that the horse can successfully complete these tasks "At Liberty".  At Liberty means that the horse engages in the learning process at will and does the exercise freely ie: "At Liberty"  without a halter or lead rope attached.  This builds an amazing bond with your horse  and helps build your horse's confidence.  It teaches your horse to join up with you, stay with you and work with you willingly!.  These exercises also teach you how to send your horse and to have your horse go willingly.  This transfers into just about anything you will ever ask of your horse  under saddle and also  ground manners and leading.   If your horse doesn't cross creeks when you ask, if it doesn't load in a trailer when you ask, if it doesn't want to willingly walk with manners on a lead rope, these are all signs of a lack in ground work.  If your horse understands the send command, your horse will go where you ask it to go when you ask it to go and it will go willingly.  At Liberty is an exciting step of the training process.  The ultimate goal of all of this is to establish a willing Partnership between you and your horse.
