Here is a downloadable pdf file that has a table and diagram for corrective shoeing of the Pleasure horse. Irregardless of the this chart, remember the most important thing you can do when shoeing your walkers is to match the angle of the shoulder. When making changes to their feet, never change more than a couple of degrees per shoeing. Allow their ligaments, tendons and muscle to adjust to the changes slowly to eliminate the possibility of straining any of the ligaments or tendons in the legs. Whatever your goal is, try to achieve it over a couple of sessions with your farrier. If you have a farrier that tells you that you shoe walkers the same as other horses....RUN Forest RUN!!! Having gone through correcting the pace and the trot, angles, length of toe, the amount of heel and the weight of the shoes does make a HUGE difference on how they gait and how well they gait. I want to reiterate that we do not do any funky shoeing but we do use some minor adjustments when shoeing our walkers. Sometimes on a pacey horse just a 4-5 ounce difference from front to back is enough to help break up the pace along with proper lengths and angles. Enjoy and feel free to download and or print the chart out.
Also, here is a link to the a surplus of farrier information.
